The Parent-Infant Intervention Home Visiting Programme

Organization: The Parent Centre
Project: The Parent-Infant Intervention Home Visiting Programme
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Target group: Families at risk

The program aims to prevent child abuse, neglect and abandonment through antenatal and postnatal home visits targeted towards parents at risk. Home visits are made by lay counselors trained and supervised by Parent Centre. The program has resulted in significantly reduced symptoms of maternal depression and a higher rate of secure attachment between mothers and infants.
