Linus Karlsson is one of the advertising industry’s most respected and honored creative executives. In April 2014, Linus founded MING Utility and Entertainment to fulfill his vision of launching a nimble company focused on new consumer value added ideas.
In addition to leading MING, Linus continues to serve as Creative Chairman of Commonwealth//McCann, the global dedicated business unit of McCann Worldgroup that supports General Motors around the world.
Linus joined McCann-Erickson in February 2011 as Chief Creative Officer and Chairman of McCann New York and London. A year later, Linus expanded his responsibility to lead the work on McCann’s global brands such as General Motors, Coca-Cola, MasterCard, General Mills and IKEA, to name a few. Linus also serves as a member of McCann’s global Creative Leadership Collective.
Linus began his career in Sweden in 1990, when he joined Paradiset DDB in Stockholm after his graduation from Berghs School of Communication. At Paradiset DDB, he created a much-celebrated campaign for Diesel jeans that won a Grand Prix at Cannes and was later inducted into the Clio Hall of Fame.
Linus moved to the U.S. in 1996 to join Fallon in Minneapolis, where he created award-winning work for Miller Lite, Virgin Mobile, BMW and MTV, among other brands.
In 2003, Linus co-founded Mother New York, a different kind of communications company that blurred the lines between above and below the line and experimented with IP and product development. Mother was awarded Agency of the Year in 2009 by Creativity Magazine for creating groundbreaking work for clients such as Target, Johnson & Johnson, Stella Artois, Dell, NBC, Coca- Cola and Cadbury.
Linus and his former creative partner Paul Malmstrom were inducted in the Swedish Advertising Hall of Fame in April 2012. Linus has also been named “One of the rising stars in advertising” by USA Today, and “One of the 50 most influential people in Pop Culture” by RayGun Magazine.
Linus is a Board member of Elanders Group, the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York, . and an inaugural member of the Facebook Creative Council, serving on the board since it’s inception in 2012.
Linus is currently a board member of World Childhood Foundation USA. Under Mr. Karlsson’s leadership, McCann has mobilized significant resources for Thank You by Childhood, a global campaign to promote Childhood and the issues sounding child abuse.
