Prevention of child abuse and trafficking

Organization: Shakti Samuha
Project: Prevention of child abuse and trafficking

Location: Nepal
Target group: Families at risk

Shakti Samuha was founded by repatriated trafficking victims from India in 1996 to improve the situation of human trafficking survivors. The organization now provides a large number of services such as vocational training, shelters, legal aid and counseling in 10 districts in Nepal. Core activities focus on prevention, empowering trafficked women and girls, educating stakeholders, advocacy and services for survivors. In the Childhood-sponsored project, 10 adolescent groups will be set up in three districts in mid-western Nepal. The groups will be coordinated by Shakti Samuha staff and will carry out awareness raising events such as street drama, sports and life skills training. The project also includes direct assistance to trafficking survivors and/or at risk youth through vocational training and income/educational support.
